Anna Laverty, Producer and Recording Engineer
Lucy Rash (also known professionally as Lucy G. Rash) is a rare breed of creative: a multi-disciplinary specialist whose work across composition, songwriting, artist development, and strategy is defined by great ideas and professional execution. Whether writing string arrangements for award-winning albums, securing million-dollar arts funding, or co-writing Americana/Country-Pop tunes with a growing international footprint, Lucy brings deep skill and care to every corner of her practice. Far from a jack-of-all-trades, she's an elite-level master of many, and her collaborators' secret weapon.
As a composer, arranger, and in-demand session musician (fiddle, keys, vocals), Lucy’s musical work spans genres and accolades. Her string arrangements and playing appear on records and in projects by ARIA-nominated, Australian Music Prize-nominated, AIR Award-winning and Music Victoria Award-winning artists including Good Morning, Watty Thompson, Georgia State Line, and Fenn Wilson. With world-class fiddle chops backed by a multi-instrumentalist's flexibility, she is the go-to utility player for celebrated Australian artists including Ella Hooper (also of Killing Heidi), Jae Laffer (The Panics) and Jess Locke, serving each artist's repertoire and stage show with exceptional presentation, musicality and feel.
Lucy’s songwriting practice is a powerful arm of her creative output. Following a self-funded research and networking trip to the US in June 2025 to pitch her co-writes to major publishing houses, Lucy is pursuing writing-to-brief and collaborative songwriting assignments in both Australia and the US. Her co-write Here We Go Again (with Ruby Jones, Joel Loukes and Tommy Brooks) was shortlisted in the Americana category of the 2025 International Songwriting Competition, a testament to her ability to craft structurally sophisticated, emotionally resonant songs with global appeal. She continues to build strong international creative networks in Australia, Nashville, Los Angeles, and beyond.
Lucy’s professional history in programming and artist development reflects her unique ability to bridge creativity and strategy. She has held significant artist development and programming roles with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (2012-19) and Sydney Symphony Orchestra (2022-23; contract), the output of which included the conception and co-production of MSO’s 2018 Education Week centrepiece, Incongruous, a ground-breaking concert exploring humour and narrative in music, developed in partnership with New York City's Leonard Bernstein Office and co-produced with legendary comedy trio, Tripod. Her Master of Teaching (2019) and work with emerging artists through these institutions has cemented her as a trusted mentor and collaborator across the Australian music ecosystem.
As one of the country’s leading grant writers and strategists, Lucy is unmatched in her ability to turn ideas into funded outcomes. With more than a decade of experience writing, winning, and acquitting government grants (up to $1M in value), she also mentors artists to develop the skills to fund their own creative practice. In 2024 alone, Lucy secured over $400K in competitive arts funding for Australian clients.
From her studio at Gasworks Arts Park, Lucy produces sought-after arrangements and original compositions for screen, stage, and recording artists. Her works have been performed at premier venues and festivals including the Sydney Opera House (Vivid LIVE), Meredith Music Festival, A Day on the Green (supporting Chris Isaak and James Taylor), and Melbourne Recital Centre, where she wrote and performed a nine-piece string suite for ARIA-nominated Country/Americana group, Georgia State Line.
Lucy’s contributions to gender equity and mentorship in music have earned her national recognition. She was awarded the prestigious 2023 APRA AMCOS Women in Music Mentorship with Xylo Aria (Music Production for Women), and in 2025 was selected to deliver APRA’s newly evolved "23% Mentorship" Program as one of only a handful of handpicked mentors Australia-wide.
Alongside her music work, Lucy leads Cult Copy, an arts-focused communications agency supporting artists and organisations through creative copywriting, branding, and storytelling. Her background in journalism includes a stint as Deputy Editor of CutCommon, where she helped the publication earn a Classical:NEXT Innovation Award nomination.
Every element of Lucy's creative practice is underpinned by expertise, fierce integrity, and an unshakeable belief in the power of great songs and clever ideas. While some people assume range-of-skill means compromise in quality, Lucy proves them wrong. Every time.
